Presenting Your Home

  1. De-clutter
    2. Limiting the amount of stuff in your home will make your home look more spacious. Things that look crowded don’t present themselves well to others. Pack up what you can and ether move it to a storage spot in the basement or consider renting a storage unit. Remember, if you haven’t used it in a year, you probably don’t need it. Clean off everything on kitchen counters.
    • Remove items from crowded shelves.
    • Remove personal items from bathroom vanities.
    • Pack up some of the kids toys, less toys means less mess and clutter.
  1. Rearrange Bedroom Closets and Kitchen Cabinets.
    2. Buyers will be opening the closets and kitchen cabinets, so make sure they are organized and things aren’t falling out. Pay attention to the details of your home, buyers will notice.
    • Alphabetize your spice jars.
    • Organize the dishes and turn cup handles the same direction
    • Hang clothes facing the same direction and organized
    • Line up shoes
    • Minimize and organize clothes and other stuff on closet shelves
    • Go through pantries and linen closets-make sure things are stacked neatly and well organized
  2. Remove favorite items.
    3. If you have items in your home such as window coverings and built in appliances or lighting that you do not want sold with the home, make sure you replace them now. Once a buyer sees an item they like, it can blow the deal in selling the home if you tell them no. If they don’t see an item, they won’t want it!
  3. De-Personalize
    4. Take down the personal photographs from your home. People need to imagine them in your home and it is easier to do when another family’s photos aren’t in your head.
  4. Do Minor Repairs.
    • Replace cracked tiles on floor or kitchen/bathroom walls.
    • Take care of holes and cracks to walls.
    • Consider painting walls neutral colors; especially of you have very unique colors.
    • Fix leaky faucets.
    • Re-Chalk around bathroom and kitchen counter tops and in bathtub area.
    • Make sure doors and windows open and close properly.
  5. Make Sure the Home is Spotless!
    • Wash windows inside and out.
    • Have carpets professionally cleaned.
    • Replace light bulbs and clean light fixtures.
    • Use pressure washer to spray down exterior of home and sidewalks.
    • Clean mirrors and bathroom fixtures.
    • Vacuum daily.
    • Wax Floors.
    • Dust Furniture (and don’t forget those fan blades!)
    • Clean out refrigerator
    • Replace worn rugs.
    • Hang up nice towels in bathrooms.
  6. Almost There!
    7. You want your home to look inviting. Make sure to go through home room by room and try to imagine what others will think. Rearrange furniture to make the home look more spacious. The closer your home looks to a “model home”, the better. Don’t forget the outside of your home; it is the first thing a potential buyer will see. Good Luck!
